Build a desk

Choose a pre-IPO basket, set limits and create a paper practice desk before considering a DevNet mandate.

Reviewed 2026-10-06

A desk maintains a target basket over time. It is separate from an Up/Down strategy and from the Trading Balance pocket. Open More → Automate → Create a desk, or New desk. A basket card's Automate action preselects its members.

Create a practice desk

  1. The basket: choose a preset or build your own from the supported pre-IPO companies. Adjust company weights and cash so they total 100%. Drafting needs no seat and stays in this browser.
  2. How strict: choose a preset, then review drift, concentration, loss stop, premium ceiling, action and daily spend caps, and the amount that needs your approval. Each limit names whether the desk code or ledger enforces it.
  3. Test read: take a seat if prompted, then request one check. This signs a mandate message and records a decision; it does not fund a Canton trade. Missing prices or model access can produce a refusal or Could not decide. You can continue without a successful test.
  4. Create: review the basket, limits and starting paper cash, choose Practice, then create the desk with your seat's signed message. Wait for its receipt before opening the desk.

Hosted check — 8 October 2026: an AI Labs desk with 40% OpenAI, 40% Anthropic and 20% cash was created in Practice with Careful limits. The flow explicitly continued without a test read and returned Your desk exists. Its cockpit showed zero checks. No seat funds moved, and no hourly decision or live trade was established by creation.

Practice uses paper cash and no Canton trade write. With its runner active, practice checks run hourly. Check now requests an extra check, at most once every ten minutes. Go live requires six of your own hourly practice checks and a visit to the record; a test read or repeated manual request does not bypass that gate.

Read the desk

TabWhat to inspect
OverviewLatest decision, allocation against target and current limit use
HoldingsEach company, its target weight and price, plus cash
ActivityChecks and decisions, including holds, approval requests and problems
RulesThe mandate and who enforces each limit

Open a check to read its input prices, proposed or refused action, reasons and fingerprint. Check it recomputes the record fingerprint. A fingerprint verifies the record's integrity, not the truth of an external price or the quality of a decision.

Share creates a read-only view of a desk's holdings and record. A private desk requires its owner's seat proof. A public shared link is not permission to change the desk.

Go live on DevNet

Once eligible, Go live opens a separate funded Canton mandate. Read the allowed companies, runner, limits, mode and deposit before authorizing it. A live desk uses this venue's pre-IPO Window positions rather than purchasing company equity on an external exchange. The ledger enforces its grant caps and allowed actions; the desk's own code enforces the limits labelled as such.

You or the runner can pause it. Only the owner can resume it, change limits, withdraw or close it. A created practice desk does not prove a successful live buy, sell or payout. Follow the actual live mandate, decision and receipt; never read the practice value line as a DevNet cash balance. See the desk trust boundary.
